Designed by Thomas Jefferson based on the style of a Roman Temple in Nimes, France.
Construction began in 1785 and was completed in 1792. Except for the Civil War years when Virginia was the Capital of The Confederacy . This building then housed The Confederacy Congress and the State legislature of Virginia met here
