John Maccon MacNamara ( Lord Clancullen ) built this historic castle about 1450.The "Norman Keep "was later extended to form an elaborate edifice of Georgian and Regency periods. Knappogue was restored as a cultural centre and tourist attraction by the Andrews family, the owners,The Shannon Free Airport Development Company,and Bord Faite, Medieaval Banquets and colourful Historic pageants are presented at Castle Knappogue nightly..May through to October..
