A great pic of the 421 Class Co- Co Diesel Electric Locomotive. The # 4201 the first of ten such locomotives entered into service on the 23 December 1965. These were manufactured at Clyde Engineering in N.S.W. of a General Motors design.The 421 is basically an update of the 42 Class built by Clyde Engineering some ten years earlier. They were a very reliable Locomotive and were best remembered on the Main Southern Line and in this photo on the Illawarra line..
