The foundation of ST. CHISTOPHER & NEVIS, also known as the Confederation of St.Kitts and Nevis and is located in The Leeward Islands and is a federal two Island country in the West Indies and is the smallest sovereign state in The Americas, in both area, and population. The country is a Commonwealth Realm and Queen Elizabeth II is the head of State. The Capital City and headquarters of Government for the Federated State is" Basseterre" on the larger Island of St. Kitts. The smaller Island of Nevis lies 2 miles ( 3 kilometers ) south east of St.Kitts across a shallow channel called "The Narrows".St. Kitts and Nevis were among the first Islands in the Carribean to be settled by Europeans, St Kitts was the home of The first British and French colonies in the Carribean and thus has been titled 'The Mother Colony of the West Indies.
