TRANS MONGOLIAN EXPRESS # 3 ULAN BATAAR MAIN STATION - MOSCOW |
I really liked this card and chose it as a souvenir card to send home from my "Around the World by Train " stop in Ulan Bataar. A really different and exciting ,very cold stop off on this Trans - Mongolian Train journey to Moscow from Beijing. The train journey was one of comfort after the journey across China from Hanoi in Vietnam for on this stage of the journey I had a 4 berth cabin to myself and the cabin was warm...outside it was freezing.!! The food was good and cheap also the samovar provided boiling water 24 hours a day for my coffee, and noodles. The security on these trains is exceptional and nobody can come into the carriage once it is stopped..I think they are called the" Provodnik"...looks after it all...and a bottle of vodka for him sees many things happen.. The journey from Beijing to Ulanbataar was 36 hours. Looking from the train it was easy to see that this was reported as being the coldest winter for such a long time and there were many animal carcasses strewn around the desolate grasslands having died from the cold weather.. I stayed in Ulanbataar for a week before catching the next part of this Train journey From Ulan Bataar to Moscow
