 What a great card !!   I  love this class of Battleships !  .This is the USS  Iowa   BB61  The first in this class of four huge Battleships  built and delivered ready fo action in WW II.. The USS Iowa was  Commissioned in 1943 and was de Commissioned  in 1990.  This is one of four Battleships of this calas all with amazing battle stories and honours, The most rominent ship in the class was the USS Missouri  BB63 thatis now at Pearl Harbour . This ship saw the Japenese surrender in Tokyo Bay inAugust  1945..   Thanky ou so much Mel for this  snesational card for my collection/

This Postcrosing card from Viriginia in the USA and is a great black/ white card showing  this Saxophone musician   Jackie Mc Lean taken in The "Connolys Stardust Room in Boston Mas.   A great  card has just arrived with two other cards  ..This is a " surprise"card and  is from the USA and shows a great view of The Pebtagon Building in in Arlington Virginia with Washington DC and The Washington Monument  standing in the background...  I worked  for some time very close by this building while  working on  (with many workers ) contructing a section of the Metro System to The National Airport. 
  This five sided giant nerve centre of The United States Defence Department is the largest office building in the world. This simple functional design of the building eliminates considerable walking distances from office to office.
    Thank you so much  Len for this great card and I beleive this also is my first card of the Pentagon Building..also great stamps.  thank you !!  So nie to reeive some cards these days as there are much fewer postal deliveries these days with very few postcards du to the International postal systems in slow or lockdown.

 A lovely colourful card showing this gun carriage with accompnying honour guard at a burial ceremony at Arlington National Cemetary in Arlington Virginia. just outside of Washington D.C. This particular cemetary holds the resting place for over 400,000 active duty service members ,Veterans and family members . This Cemetary originated in The American Civil War and many of its Northern casualties are  buried there..Ulyses S Grant was determined to take this particular area of land and use it as a cemetary to bury his  Union soldier fatalities  as it was the grounds of Robert E Lees mothers home grounds..Robert E Lee being his enemy in the conflict.Thank you Arnold for this swap card .. I visited this National cemetary many times while living in Washington DC.

Designed by Thomas Jefferson based on the style of a Roman Temple in Nimes, France.
Construction began in 1785 and was completed in 1792. Except for the Civil War years when Virginia was the Capital of The Confederacy . This building then housed The Confederacy Congress and the State legislature of Virginia met here

Chesapeake Bay.
 A nice multi-view coloured card of the various lighthouses within the Chesapeake bay..Some really unique looking lighthouses displayed here ,,It is amazing how different they can all be..The card also shows the various lighthouse dates of construction.Thank you for this card

with more than 4000 miles of shoreline Chesapeake is Americas largest inland estuary. A century ago this was by far the nations best lit waterway.The earlier lighthouses were conical stone structures but the vicious shoals of the bay required screw piled construction which engineers developed by the 1850's

MOUNT VERNON :
View is of the west front of the mansion.: In the 18th Century guests arrived at the west front gate entrance to the mansion.Washington enlarged the original house that his father had built by adding another story and building wings on the north and south .The exterior siding of the mansion and courtyard outbuildings is pine and has been beveled to resemble blocks of stone and painted with sand and paint to simulate the texture of stone.

 A lovely colourful card swap from a good friend in Texas..Thanks Arnold... I love military history and this card shows the defence and Siege of Yorktown Virginia in 1781 also known as the Battle of Yorktown.. The card shows the earthen works constructed by Cornwallis's troops to surround and defend Yorktown., unable to hold his positions from being overun by the combined  force of Continental American Army troops lead by George Washington and of French troops lead by Compte de Rochembeau. The British Army commanded and lead by Lietenant General Charles Cornwallis surrendered on October 19th 1781.making final the battles of The Revolutionary wars.

A lovely colorful card  depicting The Surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown Virginia October 19th 1781.in this painting by John Turnbull, Major General Benjamin Lincoln accepts the surrender of the British Army at Yorktown from Brigadier Charles O Hara Cornwallis.

Gettysburg: VA

 This is a nice  card and thank you Bert for this great swap.. You know That I am a military historian and I especially love the history of the American Civil War (1861-1865 ). This is a fine card and shows all the Generals from both sides of the conflict The Union army ( of the North )and also The Confederate Army (of the South)..All the participating Generals names can be seen on the card and are responsible for all that transpired at The huge and costly Battle of Gettysburg.

 A great swap card showing The US. Naval Port of Norfolk Virginia. This is the Largest Naval Base in the world and the Headquarters for Nato Atlantic. This is also a very important commercial port as well.with a 45 foot deep channel . The Port of Norfolk can accomodate the largest ships and super Aircraft Carriers..Here also you will find the USS Battleship "Wisconsin" one of the four super Battleships from WWII of the" Iowa class'.. Now retired this is a Museum Ship..as are all of the four super battleships of the IOWA class. "USS New Jersey" located in Camden NJ.  The USS "Missouri" which is now located at Pearl Harbour HI. The USS" Iowa"which is located in Los Angeles CA. Thank you Amy for this card.. I love it and hope to visit this Naval base to see the USS Wisconsin..
