Around the Phillipine Islands.

Bohol :PHILIPPINES :

This is another souvernir post card that I sent home from my recent visit to the Island of Bohol in The Philippines.. A truly lovely  Island and  a break from the polution from all the traffic in Manilla and Cebu.. A fast ferryboat gets you from Cebu Island to Bohol Island in a few hours.. The beach here in Panglao was a great retreat with a gret little place to stay and lots of fruit in the stalls on the beach..with also many bars and restaurants for local food and cold drinks. While here, I decided the best way that I could get to see the many things on offer was , I decided (which I seldom do ) was to get on a tour and with about another dozen people of many nationalities to get aboard the Van in Panglao.. the day was quite long actually as we covered many miles in the various places visited.. I most wanted to go to The Tasier wildlife Sanctuary which I really enjoyed..there were not that many people there.. and even in the dark conditions I managed a few good photographs of these amazing little guys with the huge eyes.. From there there were other stops like a butterfly farm   and a huge tree area..but I always wanted to see the " Chocolate Hills" named as their foliage in the dry times makes them look like their namesake. I was surprised how many places there were we visited during the day with various markets and locals selling their souvenirs

MY SOUVENIR CARD

and I was more than satisfied to see the things that I wanted to.

Australia

Australia.:

I like this card of a favourite Australian wildlife icon.. The Tasmanian  (Tassie) Devil..a fearsome looking fellow that has had many problems recently with a Facial fungal disease that was wiping them out in large numbers fearing they would become extinct.. and as they were not in Large numbers that it is was of great concern for scentists to find an answer .. This I beleive is an ongoing problem with great inroads being made in their defence..current programmes are in place by The Tasmanian Government to halt the impact of this deadly disease by initiating a build up of healthy "devils" in captivity isolated from the disease to save the species..
The Tasmanian devil is a marsupial animal .once native to the Australian Mainland and only now found in Tasmania and some of East coast of Maria Island which has a small conservation project of disease free animals. The size of a small dog this carnivourous marsupial became the largest Carnivourous Marsupial in the world following the extinction of the "Thylacine" ( Tasmanian Tiger ).in 1936. ,,it is related to Quolls and distantly related to the Thylacine. The Tasmanian Devil is an iconic symbol and also made famous by the "Looney Tunes" Character of the same name.

Posted Warsaw : 27 September : Arrived Sydney 11 October: Traveled 15 days.. Thanks Agnes.love it !!

The Beech Marten,:
The Beech Marten ( martes foina ) also known as the Stone Marten , House Marten, or the White Breasted Marten is a species of Marten to much of Europe (southern ) and Central Asia can be found as far east as northern Burma...also is found in the USA..although it has established a feral population in North America it is listed as least concern by the I.C.U.N. due to its wide distribution , large population and its presence in a number of protected areas.it is superficially similar to the Pine Marten but differs from it by its smaller size and its habitat preferences. While the Pine Marten is a forrest specialist , the Beech Marten is a more generalist and adaptable species occurring in a number of forrest and open Habitats.
On April the 29th 2016  a Beech Marten shut down the huge "Hadron Collider" the worlds most powerful Particle Accelerator by chewing through the wiring that was connected to an electrical transformer.!!! amazing ...

United States of America.

TEXAS.:USA.

Found throughout South America and the hot and dry southern parts of the USA, the Armadillo is a small placental mammal known for its "Body Armour " a leathery armoured shell that protects it from predators. The word "Armadillo" is Spanish for little armoured one ' Armadillos are prolific diggers . They use their sharp claws to dig for food such as , grubs and also to dig dens. These armadillos have very poor vision as most Texan drivers can confirm. Their armour like skin appears to be their main line of defence although most escape predators by fleeing. The underside of the animal is not armoured and is simply covered by skin and fur..making it very vulnerable.Armadillos have short legs but can move very quickly and have the ability to remain underwater for as long as six minutes..Thank you Ruby for this great swap card..I really like these "Did You Know " cards.
