Guernsey. CHANNEL IS.

Guernsey : CHANNEL IS. : ( U K )

What a great card from a friend in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Thank you so much Kathy for this great swap card..I love it!..The card shows the "Noon Day Gun "at Castle Cornet. that is fired off  noon.so from the end of March till the end of October, The noon day gun is fired off everyday at noon.(midday ). This of course catches many people unawares as the loud boom of the gun sounds, as many tourists are unaware of the activity..A lovely card and a strong local tradition..When I was in Fremantle Western Australia there was a "noon day gun" there as well that had been traditionally fired off...and this was to notify all sailing ships in the Harbour of the correct time to set their ships clocks for correct navigation. When the gun fired, a black ball was then  raised on the Forts Flagpole..
Thank you again Kathy for this lovely card and of course the stamp with local postmark..

Guernsey.

Guernsey: CHANNEL ISLANDS  ( UK ).

Another really nice card that I received from Guernsey.. A lovely card showing the tranquility of the harbour with all the local colourful fishing boats. My friend mentions how much a part , the ocean plays in local buisiness and enjoyment ,as most residents own a boat through neccessity , so much a large part of everyday life. The smell of the ocean and its breezes surely beets the car fumes and smells of some cities that is for sure. Having grown up on the beach the sound of the ocean is so relaxing.. Thank you so much Kathy I love these cards also for the wonderful "Year of the Goat" Chinese Lunar New Year stamp. release by Guernsey Post and postmark. This is my second card that I have received from Guernsey and a place I wanted to visit.but only got to Jersey on my trip that way. a most enjoyable part of the world.

Togeather , The Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey are known as the Channel Islands.
