A very significant event in Australias communication network to overseas .

 THis is a recent relaese card from Australia Post in its "Wildlife "series.. A great card showing this huge Saltwater ( "salty") Crocodile located all over the Northern parts of Australia in The States of Queensalnd , The Northern Territory  and Western Australia.virtually hunted to extinction 60 or more Years ago mainly for their prescious skins.they are now a protected species and are back in huge numbers..  very Dangerous..  man killers !! Much vigilance is needed by foreign visitors when in their vicinity and  their danger  should not be treated lightly
   I visited the north many times and had the privelege to observe these monsters  in the natural environment !!! One of the oldest  reptiles.on the planet they grow to a huge size.

Alice Springs . THE NORTHERN TERRITORY.: 

 This is a great card a recent relaease by Australia Post and shows " The Devils Marbles" located at the "Karlu Karlu" Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve  in the Northern Teritory of Austalia. 

Karlu Karlu is a protected area in The Northern Territory of Australia and is located in the lacality of Warumungu  and about 105 kilometers (65 miles) south of Tennant Creek and 393 ( 244 miles ) north of Alice Springs . The Devils Marbles are of great cultural and spritual significance to  the traditional owners ( Ree ) of the land where the reserve protects one of the oldest reigious sites in the world as well as the natural Rock Formations found here "Katlu Karlu" is the aboriginal name for the rock features and the surrounding araea.In 1982 almost the entire area was declared a sacred site by The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority.

 Darwin : NORTHERN TERRITORY :

This is a lovely recently released card of The Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory Australia. I have visited This National Park and like Australian National Parks is full of wildlife  and usually off the beaten track  . The card shows the Florence Falls.
. I managed to visit this Park with a bunch of likewise travellers from the hostel where I was staying  a lovey hot day and great for a swim to cool off. I will atatch a couple of pics from my visit there.

 The Litchfield National Park is located south of Darwin  The capital city of the Northern Territory.. Th nationa Park covers an area of over 1500 KM/ 2.. located very close to the city of Batchelor. The Litchfield National Park was proclimed a National Park in 1986 and Named after Frederick Henry Litchfield a Territorian explorer . Common wildlife species that are common to the area are The Antilopine Kangaroo, the agile wallaby ,the sugar glider, the southern brushtailed possum ,the fawn antechnius, and various types of flying fox. and the ghost bat. Also native to the area is an abundance of various birds, cockatoos, parrots  When driving here there are many huge magnetic Termite Mounds.. that really dot the landscape..The area also was very popular for its Uranium deposits..The Aboriginal peoples have lived in this areas for thousands of years and is very important to Kungarakan and Murrannunggu people whoes ancestral spirits are still consisered to be actively present within the landscape. The park sees about 340 000 visitors per / year .

This is a really great card  commemorating the Centennary of the first Aerial Postal flight from England to Australia. that took place from 12 to the 10 Decemeber 1919..what a great card.. This was a first day of release and was released by Australia Post10 October 2019 in Fannie Bay NT .

ULURU : Northern Territory. AUSTRALIA.:

 The many faces of Uluru. also known as Ayers Rock. located in the centre of the Northern Territory .. A truly amazing place to visit and to see the many changing colours of this amazing monolith as the sun sets.. This is a great experience and one that I enjoyed.. Thank you Margaret for this card and see that you enjoyed the wonder of this Unesco World Heritage site and National Park as much as I did.

THE DALY WATERS PUB :
History abounds with the Daly Waters Pub even though the Pub is a little off the Main Stuart Highway.,many of the artifacts there are dating back to the early explorer John McDouall Stuarts days and onwards of yesterday are preserved within the pub .The Daly Waters Pub not only provides icy cold beers for the hot traveller out here it also invites Aussies to stay and enjoy the Aussie bush atmosphere  in the Motel and Caravan Park Accomodation..

THE GHAN ARRIVES AT THE MAIN STATION ALICE SPRINGS.. GET OFF HERE.!!!
 
This card shows the Ghan train passing by the Mac Donnell  Ranges in South Australia on its long journey north to Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. This is one of the" Great Train Journeys of the World" and I find this to be another, of Australia's Great Train Journeys that I take , as I had just gotten off the" Indian Pacific "( after my trip from Sydney to Adelaide) ,. that travels     Australia's continent East to West.  Once again I am travelling in a budget "Sleep Seat" that is quite comfortable and the train has a  good snack bar and caeteria also bar !
     This Train Journey now will take me from south to north across the middle of the Australian continent. I am on my way north to Darwin and will make a stop off at Alice Spriings for some excursions inland .. Also many people take their cars on this train so that they can also enjoy the train ride and can drive back to Adelaide. This  was to be at the beginning of my  long "Around the World by Train" trip.

The trip on The Ghan starts for me in Adelaide's "Parklands " Train Terminal and a long journey of some 2500 + kilometers to travel to Darwin. This trip will take the better part of two days with a stop at Port Augusta in South Australia before I leave the train and will break the journey at Alice Springs  (25 hours away ) to enjoy the marvels of Australia's " Red Centre"  .there  I will take a road-camping trip through the "Red Heart " traveling to The National Parks of  "Kata Tjuta", (The Olgas ) and "Uluru", (Ayers Rock ) . Later on this journey I will also visit two more amazing National Parks  "Whatarrka" National Park ( Kings Canyon.).so much spectacular scenery and extremely spiritual areas in these amazing National Parks.and" Nitmiluk".at the next train stop in Catherine !
    Darwin City was quite hot although it was in the wintertime .I have had a very interesting time here in "The Alice " with good accomodation and have met some great people on that big roadtrip. So, is time to  join the train once again at Alice Springs  train Station to finish the journey north to Darwin City.with one more stop at "Nitmiluk " ( Katherine Gorge) National Park.."Wow" .This is an amazing train journey and one I would take again...To be seen also south of Darwin are the Amazing( "Kakadu" ) National Park famous for its prolific birdlife and also ("Litchfield ") National Park...so many to see in this amazing Territory and most amazing scenery that one can imagine.Will post more on these National Parks in a future post !

 Looking like a really rare steak the sandstone of the North Walls of Kings Canyon in Watarrhka National Park Really stand out in the Morning sun..Another great card from Central Australia..
  Thanks Betts for this really nice card of Kings Canyon..Yes!!..it is an amazing place ..but so hot.. winter time is the time to be here..make sure you carry lots of water out here..

Darwin : N.T.                                                  " Sunset Mindil Beach"
  The best sunsets that I have ever seen have been here on Mindil Beach in Darwin..Thursday and Sunday nights local residents all flock to the beach for a BBQ and a few cold ones..and take in the these incredible markets with foods from every country here in Asia and the tropics..The markets are held two nights a week where most locals will get an "esky" ( cooler ) fill it with their favourite brand of "coldie "and head off to the beach (where the markets are held ) and get a spot to watch the evening  sunset while eating some of the most varied food that I have ever seen.Darwin is a favourite stop for me and have been here a few times now,, I think it's being able to go away in the southern winter in OZ and wear a pair of shorts and a singlet..The sunsets here are the most amazing that I have ever seen and managed to get a few nice photos myself..
 This card is a souvenir of my stay here in Darwin.  Also this was another wonderful (long ) stop on my Around the World by Train" journey.

Road Trains. These monstrous trucks are found in the north of Australia and outback SA, WA, NT,and Qld.They transport huge amounts of sheep and cattle and can be up to 100 meters long with over 80 wheels.  One needs to be extremely careful passing these large long trucks especially on narrow parts of the highway.Thank you Dennis and Angel.
