ADELAIDE SOUTH AUSTRALIA.  THE MIGHTY "GHAN" TAKES ME  NORTH TO DARWIN IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY.

        A LONG WALK BACK TO MY CARRIAGE  NEARLY A KILOMETER LONG TRAIN !

 THIS STOP IN CATHERINE .I WILL  VISIT THE GORGE WHILE I AM  HERE .

HISTORY OF "THE GHAN" THIS AMAZING  TRAINLINE FROM STH. AUSTRALIA TO THE  NORTHERN TERRITORY .

WELCOME TO "THE ALICE "RED CENTRE!

THE GHAN ARRIVES AT THE MAIN STATION ALICE SPRINGS.. GET OFF HERE.!!!
 
This card shows the Ghan train passing by the Mac Donnell  Ranges in South Australia on its long journey north to Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. This is one of the" Great Train Journeys of the World" and I find this to be another, of Australia's Great Train Journeys that I take , as I had just gotten off the" Indian Pacific "( after my trip from Sydney to Adelaide) ,. that travels     Australia's continent East to West.  Once again I am travelling in a budget "Sleep Seat" that is quite comfortable and the train has a  good snack bar and caeteria also bar !
     This Train Journey now will take me from south to north across the middle of the Australian continent. I am on my way north to Darwin and will make a stop off at Alice Spriings for some excursions inland .. Also many people take their cars on this train so that they can also enjoy the train ride and can drive back to Adelaide. This  was to be at the beginning of my  long "Around the World by Train" trip.

The trip on The Ghan starts for me in Adelaide's "Parklands " Train Terminal and a long journey of some 2500 + kilometers to travel to Darwin. This trip will take the better part of two days with a stop at Port Augusta in South Australia before I leave the train and will break the journey at Alice Springs  (25 hours away ) to enjoy the marvels of Australia's " Red Centre"  .there  I will take a road-camping trip through the "Red Heart " traveling to The National Parks of  "Kata Tjuta", (The Olgas ) and "Uluru", (Ayers Rock ) . Later on this journey I will also visit two more amazing National Parks  "Whatarrka" National Park ( Kings Canyon.).so much spectacular scenery and extremely spiritual areas in these amazing National Parks.and" Nitmiluk".at the next train stop in Catherine !
    Darwin City was quite hot although it was in the wintertime .I have had a very interesting time here in "The Alice " with good accomodation and have met some great people on that big roadtrip. So, is time to  join the train once again at Alice Springs  train Station to finish the journey north to Darwin City.with one more stop at "Nitmiluk " ( Katherine Gorge) National Park.."Wow" .This is an amazing train journey and one I would take again...To be seen also south of Darwin are the Amazing( "Kakadu" ) National Park famous for its prolific birdlife and also ("Litchfield ") National Park...so many to see in this amazing Territory and most amazing scenery that one can imagine.Will post more on these National Parks in a future post !

Another lovely card from New Zealand this card is from Gisborne.The city of Gisborne is located at the  northern end of Poverty Bay in North eastern New Zealand , and is the largest settlement in the Gisborne Region with a population of nearly 35.000 .The District Council has its headquarters in Whataupoko in the Central City. This was the first part of New Zealand that was sighted by the crew of  Captain James Cooks "Endeavour "and was named for the first crew member who saw it. A memorial to Cook stands on the foreshore marking the point where he first stepped ashore in New Zealand on the 08 October 1769. Thank you Heather for this card..

 An old card from an old friend..shows a marvellous scene of Zagreb's Uppertown.. Zagreb has a long and rich history dating from Roman times to the present day.The oldest settlement in the urban area of the city is Andautonia  a Roman settlement,  the place of todays "Scitarjevo". In 1945 Zagreb saw itself made as the capital of Croatia when the demographic boom and the urban sprawl made the city as it is known today..Thank you for this card Allan..

Dearborn : MI.

 This is another souvenir card I just had to get when visiting the amazing Ford Motor Museum in Dearborn Michigan in June 2013. This also shows the Model T Ford which. in the museum you can see being put togeather in  no time at all with its very simple and  ingenious parts. The 1914 Model T Ford Touring Car and from the moment that it was introduced in 1908  this Model T Ford revolutionised the automobile industry . In 1913 Ford began building the Model T on the moving assembly line a decision that increased productivity and reduced the price that it cost to produce which in turn resulted in lower costs to the consumer. Although the Model T was offered in several body styles the five passenger touring car was by far the most favourite, in all, 15 million T models were manufactured between 1908 to  1927.Making it one of the most popular motor vehicles of all time..any color you want....as long as it is black !!

Long Island : NY.                                         Montauk Point Lighthouse  NY.

 A lovely card showing this lighthouse on Long Island in New York.Located on the most easterly tip of Long Island on the south fork. The lighthouse tower stands at 108 feet and overlooks The Atlantic Ocean. The Montauk Point  Lighthouse was authorised to be built in 1795 by President George Washington and was completed in 1797 at a cost of $ 22, 300,00.
