FLINDER'S STREET RAILWAY STATION MELBOURNE |
MELBOURNE .:VICTORIA. ( Journey # 1 )
Melbourne .: VIC. (Journey # 2) Melbourne VIC to Adelaide S.A.
Depart Melbourne 07.40 aboard The "Overland Express" for my next stop on my journey "Around The World by Train" is, Adelaide, previously visited after the trip from Sydney to Adelaide on the "Indian Pacific ". I hadn't taken the" Overlander" before so there was much anticipation as I love train travel. After leaving The City of Melbourne and its large suburbs it does not take long to be in Rural Victoria. A very dry countryside as we travel through Wheat country that has recently been harvested..and what is left the sheep are enjoying..Traveling further through the "Mallee Country" it is easy to see the devistating affect not only the drought is having but the recent bush fires have taken a toll on livestock, fences, and the trees in this part of the state.
The Train makes many stops as it heads towards Adelaide and South Australia nearing the border of Victoria and South Australia the farmland takes on a new look and is much greener with local beef/ dairy Cattle looking very fat and not really affected by drought with good fodder..The scenery changes once again traveling through this farmland and then into the outlying suburbs of Adelaide, and then the city itself..it is not long before were are pulling into "Parklands" Adelaide's Central Railway Station. time is 17.30 .journey has been just over ten hours and have traveled nearly 850 kilometers..due to the many stops this took a little longer than I thought ..another great train journey.
This card was my souvenir card of my journey on this "Overland Express " 24 March 2009.
