Sequoyah: Famous Cherokee Indian.:
Sequoyah (1776-1843 ) Soldier , statesman , silversmith , creator of The Cherokee s.yllabary ( writing system ) was born along the north bank of the Little Tennessee River  ( Tellico Lake ) in what is now  Monroe County Tennessee, adjacent to southern Blount County.
In the late 1700's the Cherokees decided to adopt some of the ways of their white conquerors. In 1821 after 20 years of hard work Sequoya perfected a method of syllabary notation in which English stood for Cherokee syllabals. In 1828 The Cherokees were publishing their own newspapers and had adopted a written constitution and a code of laws. Sequoyah is honoured in the scientific names in the Redwood and giant Sequoia trees in California.
The Cherkees have built a Sequoyah's birthplace near US 411 at Vonore, Tennessee at the site of his birth.
