Portugal


PORTUGAL:

 This is a wonderful multi-view card showing the many different operations in  very different industry the harvest of the Cork from these trees in this special part of Portugal.. So many people do not know that cork grows on trees and in fact it is the bark of these trees that is the cork. (Quercus suber ).
These beautiful trees grow allover the rolling plains of the Alentejo in Portugal.Each of these trees take thirty or forty years to reach maturity for cork production but themselves live for hundreds of years. They are now a protected species it is illegal to cut them down or damage them in any way.
