The "Green Zones" protect the bio diversity of the Marine Park by protecting important breeding and nursery areas such as sea grass beds, mangrove communities , and deep water shoals and reefs..The Island is particularly popular for its scuba diving and snorkelling as its location far offshore at the far southern end of The Great Barrier Reef and the results in the excellent water clarity.
The waters surrounding the Island are particularly rich in all forms of sea life because of the total ban on fishing or of the taking of anything from the Islands surrounding waters..Manta rays are in abundance and are attracted by the plankton around the Island.
