The card shows and Australian soldier ( digger ) writing a quick letter home ..as his rifle sits in the mud he finds a dry place to write. A really great photograph that says so much..This is a first day release "Maxi card"

Lady Elliot Island : Queensland : AUSTRALIA.:

A lovely card of Lady Elliot Island in the Barrier Reef of Northern Queensland.:
 Lady Elliot Island is an island in the southernmost Coral Cay in the Great Barrier Reef. The island lies 46 nautical miles ( 85 kilometers  53 miles ) NE of Bundaberg and covers an area of some 45 Hectares ( 110 acres) it is part of the Capricorn and Bunker group of Islands and is owned by the Commonwealth of Australia.The island is home to a small "eco" resort and has a small airstrip and is serviced daily with flights from the mainland.The Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is known for its bio diversity Lady Elliot Island is located in the "Green Zone" of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is the highest classification designated  by The Marine Park Authority. The "Green Zones" protect the bio diversity of the Marine Park by protecting important breeding and nursery areas such as sea grass beds, mangrove communities , and deep water shoals and reefs..The Island is particularly popular for its scuba diving and snorkelling as its location far offshore at the far southern end of The Great Barrier Reef and the results in the excellent water clarity.
The waters surrounding the Island are particularly rich in all forms of sea life because of the total ban on fishing or of the taking of anything from the Islands surrounding waters..Manta rays are in abundance and are attracted by the plankton around the Island. The speckled carpet shark is often observed in its clear waters also.

 This is a souvenir card That I got on a recent visit to the Australian Museum in Sydney.an interesting card on Aboriginal women's daily implements and equipment. in the western desert, The stout mulga or ironwood digging stick with its sharpened end hardened in the fire was used for unearthing , roots, small marsupials and reptiles.The wooden dishes called "coolamons" were for carrying water and a vast variety of foods ranging from grass seeds and fruits ,,,grubs and lizards...sometimes they were also used for cradles for babies .The grinding stones for preparing flour from grass seeds were not usually carried around but were left at various campsites ready for subsequent visits..

Another really welcomed and loved card fro my mate Rob in Alberta from a recent visit to the town of Vulcan that is located in Alberta...and is all things Vulcan and "Star Trek" This little town is a "trekkies " paradise thanks again Rob for this great card and also the great stamps and cancellation postmark from Vulcan. it all really makes for a favourite card..thanks mate..

Being a butterfly lover and also this is my " nickname" on card swapping clubs and postcrossing..I really enjoy this card release by Australia Post and this is one of four in this release.

I really like these 'Did You Know" cards as they are always so informative on so many different things..This card I really like as it has to do with the "Aussie " Swagman..A great character born out of the great depression..and also along with him so many new Aussie expressions and traits came out of that period in time.... A great card..

What a lovely card just arrived from a friend in Ulan Ude.. ( Transbaikalia ) near Lake Baikal..in Russia and shows people in National Dress also in Carnival festivities ( Maslenitsa )This scene is at the Ethnographic Museum of the Peoples of Transbaikalia. This Open air Museum is is located in the town of Ulan Ude and covers an area of 37 hectares with more than 11 thousand exhibits and 40 landmarks.. Thank you so much Luba for this lovely card and wished I knew of this place when I was in Ulan Ude.although then there was a huge dust storm so this would not have been possible that day..Spasiba...Luba..

A lovely multi -view card showing the many attractions that are found here at Puerto Varas.Thank you Carol for remembering me on your journey here..it looks very peaceful..This particular region of Puerto Varas was colonised for Germans in 1853  The lake is overlooked by this snow capped volcano. This looks like a lovely place to visit...Thank you Carol for this nice card..Unfortunately the dummies in the post office stuck the stamps allover the card..

A lovely colour card from a fellow swapper...card shows this man and woman of the desert in Rajasthan in their colourful traditional clothes.People of this region wear very colourful clothes. The men wear a "dhoti , kurta  and a very long colourful turban while the women  of this region wear very colourful ghaghra, a blouse called a kachi and an odhni or chunri,.Thank you Sanjay for this card swap..

I love both of these cards..

I had the good fortune to visit some of these Tribal reservations when I was recently in Oklahoma and so impressed by the amazing cultures and the lives of the Choctaw ,and  Chickasaw peoples along with other tribes .. Creek , Cherokee and Seminole that have contributed so much to Oklahoma's cultural heritage....This is a lovely card..Thank you for the swap..

Normanton : FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND

I love trains and railway stations This particular "Maxi card" first day release by Australia post shows this wonderful little train " The Gulflander" in the station that is located in the town of Normanton in FNQ...and is a very popular train with train buffs" worldwide ..who travel to this small town to see and ride it to a town a few hours away called Croydon..The train lovingly is called the "Tin Hare" and carries goods to the far outlying farms and properties in the area..I and a bunch of friends and family had driven out here and excitedly booked our tickets for the following mornings journey.as sometimes the small allocation of seats is booked out.This train journey I must say was a really great experience and also a very unique train to ride..The train stops after a few hours travel in a place called "Black Bull" where local country women put on a morning tea" of fresh hot scones with "strawberries and cream""oh this was just so good..A few other stops were made along the line for locals to pick up deliveries from the train..I will attatch a few pics of my own from this great little train journey..Also I added a pic of the famous Aussie icon The Purple pub" that is also located in Normanton and a great place to blow the froth off a few cold beers in the north Queensland heat of the day..

A lovely recently released card from Australia Post from Macquarie Island  .love it and the dogs looking after the Royal Penguins there ..breeding on the Island.

Macquarie Island is located in the south west Pacific half way between New Zealand and Antarctica. Politically a part of the state of Tasmania in 1900 and became a Tasmanian State reserve in 1978 and Unesco World Heritage site in 1997. The Island is the home entirely to the Royal Penguin during their annual nesting season.
Ecologically . the Island is part of the Antipodes Sub Antarctic Islands Tundra Eco division. Since 1948 Australia Antarctic Division has maintained a permanent base known as The Macquarie Island Station on an isthmus at the northern end of the island at the foot of wireless Hill.The population of the base, the only human habitation usually varies from 20 to 40 persons over the year.A heliport is located near the base.
