Australia

Charleville. QLD.

.Located on the Matilda Highway 744 Kilometers west of Brisbane. Charleville is the centre for a rich pstoral district and in 1922 was where the first regular flight service was commenced between Charleville and Cloncurry by the Australian iconic  Qantas. ( Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service .) Cobb and Co Stagecoach Services moved their coach building services here from Bathurst in N.S.W.in 1893 and continued building what was then referred to as 'Tall Ships" These were built here until 1920 when lack of demand saw the closure of the buisiness. Charleville has many things to see while here..I visited the "Outback Skywatch" Weather Station and witness the daily weather balloons released and The Royal Flying Doctor Service has a major base located here and then their is the School of  Distant Education ..( "School of the Air") where the children off local outback farms and properties are educated .
This is my souvenir card of my visit here on my Road-trip north.. Posted home 1 July 2002.
