England

The Mighty Mallard. LNER Class 4. Number 4464. The Class 4 is a class of 4-6-2 of streamlined locomotive designed by Micheal Gresley in 1935 for the London and North Eastern Railway.Their streamlined design gave them very high speed and made them instantly recognisable and one of the Class number 4464 Mallard (as seen on this card ) holds the world record for being the fastest ever steam locomotive..Gresley introduced the Class A4 locomotives in 1935 to haul a new streamlined train called the "Silver Jubilee" to run between Londons Kings Cross and Newcastle. The new service was named in celebration of the 25th year reign of King George the fifth.
This locomotive can be seen in the National Railway Museum in York northern England. I believe it to be the best Railway Museum in the world.
Thank you for this marvelous card Diane. posted from the Railway Museum in York.
