The Devils Tower was the first declared State National Monument established on the 24th September 1906 by By President Theodore Roosevelt . The Monuments boundary encompasses and area of 1547 acres.and is located in The bear lodge mountains Part of the Black Hills.The teardrop shaped top of the tower is approximately 1.5 acres in area. The base diameter is around 1000 feet. There is a shallow soil base that supports grasses ,shrubs and cactus.
