THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN ON APRIL 12th 1861.

Fort Sumter : SC.

This is a most attractive card and shows a lovely aerial view of Fort Sumter  in South Carolina...Now a National Monument.
Fort Sumter was the scene of the opening battle of the American Civil War on the 12th April 1861. After a 34 hour siege the Fort commandered by Major Robert Anderson and his detatchment of Union troops surrendered.The Fort was then occupied by the Confederate army and remained in their hands until shortly before the end of the war on February 17th,1865..
