What a great scenic card this is..and thank you Khatuna for sending me such a nice card. The card shows The St. Stephens Church atop a mountain in the north of Georgia
Stepantsminda formerly known as" Kazbegi" is a small town in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region of NE Georgia. Historically and Ethnologically the town is part of the "The Khevi Province "and is the centre of the Kazbegi Municipality. According to local tradition "Stepantsminda" ( literally means Stephen ) and was named after a Georgian Orthodox Monk named Stephen who constructed a "Hermitage" on this location which later became The Georgian Military Highway. The town is located along the banks of the Thergi River 157 kilometers ( 98 miles ) to The north of Tbilisi at an elevation of 1,740 meters (5,710 feet ) above sea level.
