SO MANY LOVELY STAMPS..
Ananuri: GEORGIA.:

This lovely card arrived yesterday from a good friend in Tbilisi Georgia ..The card shows the Fort in  Ananuri. This is a Castle complex that is located on The River Aragvi. 72 kilometers and (45 miles ) from Tbilisi. This area was ruled by a feudal dynasty in the 13th Century and the castle became the scene of many herendhous battles. The Fortress remained in use until  the beginning of the nineteenth Century.  In 2007 The complex was on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE  programme. The fortifications consist of two castles joined by a "Crenellated" curtain wall. the upper fortification with a large square tower known as a "Sheupovari"is well preserved and is the location of the last defence of the Aragvi against the Shamshe. The lower fortification , that is round is in ruins..
Thank you so much Khatuna for this really nice card and also the history.. Nakhvamdis. Khatuna.
