Georgia.
Svaneti.: GEORGIA.:
Located in the north western part of Georgia and surrounded by 3.000 to 5,000 meter peaks Svaneti is the highest inhabited area in The Caucasus, four of the ten Highest peaks in The Caucasus are located in the region. The highest mountain in Georgia Mount Shkhara at 5.201 Meters ( 17, 059 feet ) is located in the province. Situated on the southern slopes of the Central Greater Caucases, Svaneti extends over the upper valleys of the Rioni, Inguri and Tskhenis-Tsqali. Geographically and Historically the province has been divided into two parts Upper Svaneti and Lower Svaneti.
The card shows some of the many Svanetian Tower Houses.and Svanetia is known for its Architectural treasures and picturesque landscapes with its many Tower houses. The famous Svanetian Towers were erected mainly in the 9th - 12th Century and make the regions villages more attractive to visitors for in The province there are dozens of Georgian Orthodox Churches and various fortified buildings . The Architectural Monuments of Upper Svanetia are included in the list of Unesco World Heritage sites.
