United States of America
Dover : TN.:
I have always been fond of military history and I love these cards from the American Civil War battlefields. This card from Fort Donelson in Tennessee one of two close major battlefields the other being Fort Heiman two sites of the American Civil war Forts Henry and Donelson campaigns in which the Union Army under Brigadier Ulysses S Grant and Flag Officer Andrew Hull Foote captured three confederate forts and opened up two Rivers , The Cumberland River and the Tennessee River to control by the Union Navy. The Commanders received National recognition for their victories in February 1862 as they were the first major Union Army's successes of the war. The capture of Fort Donelson and its garrison by the Union led to the capture of Tennessee's capital and its Industrial Centre, Nashville, which remained in Union hands from February 25th 1862 until the end of the war.and this gave the Union control over most of Tennessee.Thank you Mel for this card..Love it! also lovely stamps.
