Thailand

The infamous Bridge on The River Kwai.  Kanchaburi.

KANCHANABURI.: : THAILAND :  (Journey # 1 )

Sitting with Tiger with cubs .Tiger Sanctuary Kanchanaburi.

What a magnificent boy he is !!.
This was a place that was on my list of must see and do's when last in Thailand.. ..This notorious site  located north of the Capital  Bangkok was the scene of an herendous period for thousands of allied and local prisoners captured and interned by the Japanese army in the Second World War..The infamous  " Bridge on The River Kwai" saw unbelievable brutality metered out to the poor unfortunate prisoners of different nationalities many that were Australians that built this Bridge and also the railway under incredible and inhumane circumstances.
..Close by is the "Jeath Museum" where can be seen a lot of items and vehicles  to do with this terrible period in time..The local War Cemetery that is looked after and administered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is just immaculately kept by local hired labour certainly a credit to their diligence and caring. I spent some time  here looking at just so many Australian and Allied Servicemen's graves.
This card was a souvenir card of my day visit to Kanchanaburi and the notorious "Bridge " and Jeath museum just a short train trip from Bangkok Central Hualampong Station. .. Kanchanaburi is a place that I have had on my must "visit" list for some time and another interesting destination on my  "Around the World Journey by train ...along with The Tiger Sanctuary.
