WASHINGTON MONUMENT |
This is a souvenir card that I chose to send home on my recent visit to Washington DC . This card shows the magnificent Jefferson Memorial..in spring with the cherry blossoms in bloom around the "Tidal Basin". The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is located on the south side of the Tidal Basin in west Potomac Park. The Thomas Jefferson memorial is one of the many magnificent memorials that can be found here in DC and this particular Memorial is one of the City's most picturesque landmarks..it was dedicated in 1943 to commemorate the 200 th Anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth. Also to be seen on this visit was the new "Holocaust Museum"..a welcomed invite from a Retired Airforce Colonel was a sit down on the steps of the Capitol Building, while watching the sun set over the Mall on a very warm summers evening listening to the marvellous U.S.A.A.F band playing many tunes. I had some interesting conversation with some of the band members that always look so immaculate in their dress blues.. This was a great visit once aagin to Washington DC and great to see many of my friends again as I had lived here for some four years and back on many visits ..also this time a day out picking peaches and blueberries in Virginia...just great !!Washington DC. .a wonderful city to visit anytime with so much to see and do..if you visit here make sure you leave yourself a week to see it !!!This was another wonderful stopover on my recent journey "Around the World by Train..journey USA.
Next stop..The Capitol Limited Train Service to Chicago..on Amtrak..
