United States of America

Dearborn : MI

This is one of a few cards that I  bought as a souvenir when visiting the Ford Motor Museum in Dearborn Michigan..There are a many of the Presidential Limousines to be found there. This particular Presidential Limousine is "The Sunshine Special". President Franklin D Roosevelt was the most prominent rider in this specially built 1939 Lincoln convertible, during world War II the car was  updated with body armour , bullet proof glass, two way radio and a compartment for fire arms and a new for 1942 front end treatment..The car accompanied Roosevelt to many dramatic diplomatic meetings in Yalta, Tehran , Casablanca ,and Malta. Roosevelt liked to ride in his limousine with the top down. hence the nickname " The Sunshine Special " after FDR's death in 1945 the car was used by the then President Harry Truman until the car was retired in 1950..and today can be found with many other limousines at the Ford Museum. This was a special visit to this amazing Museum and something that I had always wanted to do..This was a stop on my "Around the USA by Train June- August 2013 .            Souvenir card  Posted home 03 July 2013.
