Myanmar

 Bagan : MYANMAR :        (Journey # 1 )

  The Land of aThousand Pagodas..

Another really amazing day out around Bagan with my trusty horse and cart...a really different form of transport for me but very comfortable .I carry plenty of water for the horse..Water here is such a neccesity as the days are so hot..
as a matter of fact I have never been as hot
anywhere as I was here in Bagan and Mandalay.

The Htlimonilo Temple..1211 AD.
Ploughing around the Chedis..
The back of the Temple.

Hard working people with little to show for so much labour.

A colourful card depicting the Htilominlo Temple.reputed to be one of the finest of many in Bagan the temple was built around 1211AD by King Nantaugmya. This is a lovely Temple to visit and see..
This wonderful temple is just one of what appears to be dozens along with thousands of Chedis , pagodas . and just so many different ancient structures that are everywhere..while some having been extensively damaged others are in wonderful condition...I noticed some being repaired but I was led to believe that it was the locals doing the work voluntarily rather than the government..I couldn't be sure. I hired a horse and cart to visit so many of these sites as they were spread over such a great area.
I must say that in all my travels this is the most amazing place that I have ever been.
A souvenir postcard home from here in June 2009  Posted from Bagan while on my "Around the World by Train"  journey in  2009.
