LOCAL PIPER
New Brunswick: CANADA.:

Here, as  in many parts of Canada can be heard the sound of a piper..they say during the summer months in New Brunswick  pipes can be heard and seen at the border to Nova Scotia from the Province of New Bruswick. Also the sounds of many pipers in a band of Pipes And Drums that  can be quite stirring...They are seen on many special occasions ie.: Military Rememberence days and celebratory event .ie: St Patricks Day. ,  in areas, as where I live in Australia ,and many other English speaking countries also are represented by local Pipes and Drum bands  Many Military regiments in the British Commonwealth of countries have their own bands of Scottish Pipes and drums. A lot of  the famous Regimental bands can be see at world Military Tattoos especially the huge  Military Tattoo every year held in Edinburgh Castle, in Edinburgh Scotland..My brother is a drummer in a local Scottish band which was recently invited to Edinburgh to participate with other famous Military Regimental bands ...famous bands such as The Black Watch, The Regimental Guards bands  of the Queens Household Division  (Scots Guards , Irish, Welch, Grenadier and Coldstreem Guards) and many of the Scottish Highland and Lowland Military Regiments..in this yearly event of marvelous military pageantry..Bands from every corner all over the world are invited to Edinburgh to participate..in this  amazing annual event.that every year puts on a spectacular military pageant.

A Piper was once asked what was worn under his kilt ? !..and he answered "Nothing Madam"!, "Everything is in fine working order",.  "thank you.".
Thank you Ruby for this another "Did you Know" card. I love them.. they are so informative.

TIDAL BORE.

Moncton.: NB. CANADA.:
I always like to receive these "Did you Know " cards and this one is from New Brunswick in Canada.
"THE TIDAL BORE"   A rare curiosity called a "BORE" is formed by the Bay of Fundy on The Petitcodiac River in Moncton, N. B. and The Salmon River, Truro, N.S.   Each River emerges from the Bay, gradually narrowing and becoming more shallow,As The Tidal current enters this more confining region the waves steepen because the wave crest ( Foamy top ) is moving faster than the trough ( foot of the wave ) and finally the crest overtakes the trough and the wave breaks..It then continues up the River in  a surge, sometimes the wall of water is minimal and only a few inches highbut in the Spring tides it can reach a few feet. The height is determined by the depth of the Tidal Water which in turn depends on the Phases of the Moon. This explains the difference in the size of each Tidal Bore... I have witnessed such a large Tidal Bore in The Western part of the UK in The River Severn ,where, when this bore races up the river some people surf the large wave for miles..
Thank you Ruby for swapping this card..
