The reason that this  ship known lovingly as " The Mighty MO" was that the then President of The USA  President Truman was from the state of Missouri and when asked by General Mc Arthur who was to take the surrender . "Sir "!"What ship will we use for the surrender "??  and of Course the President  Truman answered The USS Missouri of course..after all his wife Margaret Truman sponsered The "Mighty Mo "
The USS  Missouri BB63 s is one of four huge IOWA Class Battleships . They are  USS New Jersey BB62,  USS Iowa BB61, and the USS Wisconsin.BB64  All four of these huge ships are now retired from service with The US Navy and are all Museum ships  that can be vited today. The USS Missouri  BB63 is to be seen at Pearl Harbour. The USS Wisconsin BB64  can be seen in The National Maritme Centre  Norfolk Virginia  . A great swap card .. This is special as I have a great interest in this class of magnificent and huge battleships that have such an impressive and gallant history. The biggest ever built by the USA for their needs in WWII... This Iowa Class of battle ships The USS IOWA (BB61) The USS.Missouri  (BB 63), The USS New Jersey (pictured ) ( BB 62), and The USS WISCONSIN (BB64). All of this particular class of Battleships have now been retired from the US Navy and are floating museums and are located in various parts of the country.. I have visited The USS Missouri that is located at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii and is truly worth a visit.
The USS New Jersey  (The nations most decorated ship ) .is located on the Delaware River along the Camden waterfront in New Jersey.across from Centre City Philadelphia, To visit any of these battleships is to be in awe of their size and capability. I hope to visit the USS New Jersey on my next visit to the USA..
.The USS Wisconsin is at the naval base in Norfolk Virginia and the USS Iowa is located in Los Angels. The USS Iowa after its retirement was donated to the Los Angeles based non profit .The Pacific Battleship Centre in 2011.and was permanently moved to Berth 87 at the port of Los Angeles in 2012.. United States of America

USA  Hawaii :    Oahu:                    "  Pearl Harbour Memorial "
Being a military History "buff" this was a place that I have always wanted to visit. To visit Pearl Harbour is a real experience as there are so many different sites here most are solemn places to commemorate the fallen on December the 7th 1941 when The Japanese attacked the Naval Fleet in Pearl Harbour sinking and also damaging most of the ships in the Harbour.. The most significant memorial here is the USS Arizona..one of the biggest Battleships in dock that day and sank with most hands.1100 were lost on the Arizona that day...To stand above this huge ship is to wonder of the day when these boys were in battle while being attacked and the little chance they had to retaliate..as I looked down on the sunken ship from the viewing platform a drop of oil came to the surface then sort of dispersed itself in a rainbow on the water...and I thought..wow..that has been in the bilge of that battleship since it went down.. This site is one of the most visited sites in The USA..
This card was posted home from Pearl Harbour as a souvenir of my visit..
