This card was sent by a friend who sent it to her.then to me...!! The card shows The site of Lourdes a small market town that lies in the foothills of The Pyrenee region.in Southern France . The Town of Lourdes rose to prominence in 1858 in France and abroard after Marianne Apparitions seen by the peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous who was later canonised. Shortly thereafter the city became one of the worlds most important sites of pilgrimage and religious tourism. Today Lourdes hosts about six million people a year from all corners of the world. Prior to the apparitions of The Heavenly Mother in 1858 The most prominent feature of the town was the fortified Castle that rises up from a rocky escarpment in the centre.
