Fraser Island : AUSTRALIA.
A lovely colourful card from Fraser Island in southern Queensland.
Fraser Island is a heritage listed island located along the southern coast of Australia approximately 220 Kilometers ( 120 miles ) north of Brisbane and is a locality within the Fraser Coast region. The Islands length is about 120 kilometers (75 miles ) and its width is 24 kilometers and 15 (miles ) it was inscribed as a World Heritage site in 1992. The Island is considered to be the largest sand Island in the world at 1840 KM2. This is also Queenslands largest Island and the sixth largest Australian Island and largest Island on the East Coast.
The Island has rainforrest , woodland eucalyptus forrest , mangrove forrests and paet and wallum swamps.with sand dunes and coastal heaths..The Island is made up of sand that has been accumulating for over 750,000 years on volcanic bedrock that provides a natural catchment for the sediment which is carried on a strong nothwards current to the caost. Fraser island is home to a small number of mammal species and a diverse range of birds , reptiles and amphibians.including the occasional salt water crocodile and is part of The Fraser Coast Region and protected in the great Sandy National Park.

Located off the East coast of Australia Fraser Island is a "Sand Island".completely made of sand and is the biggest sand Island in the world. There are other examples of sand islands and they are "Moreton Island " and " North Stradbroke Island" which lie south of Fraser Island, both off the east coast of Australia. Fraser Island is a Heritage listed island and is located approximately 200 klms (120 miles ) north of Brisbane as well as being the biggest sand island in the world at 1840 sq.klms.Fraser Island is the largest island on the east coast and the largest in the state of Queensland and also Australia's sixth largest island. The dingo (native dogs ) found on Fraser Island are reputed to be among the last pure breeds of the species and dogs are prevented from being taken to the island to prevent inter-breeding. This is an extremely popular Island for Australians on camping and fishing vacations.
